Women's Soccer Travels to Kentucky for Battle of the Bluegrass on Friday Night

Cardinals take on the Wildcats Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's soccer team will be looking to bounce back after dropping its first match of the season to Marquette with a 2-0 shutout. Earlier in the week, the Cardinals defeated the Indiana Hoosiers 2-0 in Bloomington.
Freshman Emina Ekic leads the Cardinals in scoring with two goals for four points. Three players (Alison Price, Allison Whitfield and Gabrielle Vincent) each have one goal and one assist for three points.
Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Kouzelos owns a 1.00 goals against average after two weeks of competition. She recorded has recorded two shutouts and has 10 saves on the year.
Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 18th season with the Cardinals. She has guided Louisville to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.
SCOUTING KENTUCKY
The Kentucky Wildcats enter the match with a 2-2 overall record. The Cats beat Eastern Kentucky 3-1 on Thursday of last week before defeated Wyoming 2-1 in overtime on Sunday.
Tanya Samarzich leads the team in scoring with three goals on the year. She has scored both game-winning goals for the Wildcats this year. Eva Mitchell leads the team with two assists so far this season. Sophomore keeper Evangeline Soucie leads Kentucky between the pipes. She owns a 1.21 goals against average while collecting 21 saves on the year.
Head coach Ian Karry is in his first season as head coach with the Wildcats. He spent four seasons as an assistant at Kentucky before being named the head coach in November of 2016.

The Cardinals and the Wildcats will meet for the 21st time since the series began in 1985. The Wildcats lead the series 14-5-1 against the Cardinals. Last season the Wildcats defeated the Cardinals 2-1 in Lynn Stadium. The last time the two teams met in Lexington, the Cats prevailed with a 1-0 victory.
