Cardinals set to open 2017 campaign on Friday night at Lynn Stadium
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's soccer team will open the 2017 season on Friday, Aug. 18 against Boston University at 7:30 p.m. at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals will then Miami (OH) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Lynn Stadium to wrap up the weekend.
Louisville enters the 2017 season with 10 returning starters and eight newcomers. The Cardinals were a strong defensive team last season and will continue that tradition this season. With a year under the belt, the Louisville attack should be much improved with sophomores Brooklynn Rivers, Sarah Feola and Allison Whitfield.
The midfield will have a slightly different look as senior Alison Price will move to a more attacking role for the Cardinals. Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Kouzelos will rely on her national team experience as she moves into the starting keeper role.
Scouting Boston University
The Terriers ended the 2016 season with a record of 9-11-1. Coach Nancy Feldman is entering her 23rd year as the head coach for Boston University, where Coach Ferguson-Dayes worked as an assistant coach from 1995-96. Boston University returns their top point scorer, forward McKenna Doyle who had four goals and 11 assists during the 2016 season.
Series History
This will be the first time the Cardinals will face off against the Terriers.
Scouting Miami (OH)
After finishing the 2016 season with an 8-9-2 record, the Redhawks return six starters and 10 letterwinners. Senior captain Katie Alexander will return to midfield after being injured for the 2016 season and will be joined by 13 true freshmen. Hugh Seyfarth enters his first year as interim head coach after 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Miami.
Series History
The Cardinals and Redhawks will meet for the eighth time in series history. Miami (OH) leads the series 4-3, but the Cardinals have won three of the last four matchups.
