Women's Soccer Participated in Fall Sports Media Day on Friday
August 11, 2017 | Women's Soccer
Karen Ferguson-Dayes, Inger Katrine Bjerke and Gabrielle Vincent all addressed the media
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes and several members of the Louisville women's soccer team met with reporters during the Cardinals' annual fall sports media day activities on Friday afternoon at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Ferguson-Dayes, entering her 18th season leading the Louisville program, was joined by senior defender Inger Katrine Bjerke and junior All-ACC defender Gabrielle Vincent in previewing the 2017 season. The Cardinals will once again play another challenging schedule in the 2017 season, the Cardinals will host two teams ranked in the preseason United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 (Florida and Duke). Louisville will travel to three teams ranked in the preseason poll (Clemson, Virginia and North Carolina).
Louisville enters the 2017 season with 10 returning starters and eight newcomers. The Cardinals were a strong defensive team last season and will continue that tradition this season. With a year under the belt, the Louisville attack should be much improved with sophomores Brooklynn Rivers, Sarah Feola and Allison Whitfield. The midfield will have a slightly different look as senior Alison Price will move to a more attacking role for the Cardinals. Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Kouzelos will rely on her national team experience as she moves into the starting keeper role.
The Cardinals begin the season on Aug. 18 as they host Boston University at 7:30 p.m. in Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals will host DePaul tomorrow night in exhibition play at 5:00 p.m.
