This week features former defender Chelsea Hunter
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- One of the finest defenders in Louisville Women's Soccer history, Chelsea Hunter came to Louisville in 2009 from Livonia, Michigan. After playing her freshman season in 2009, Hunter sustained a back injury that would sideline her for the entire 2010 season.
After having to sit out and redshirt her entire sophomore season, Hunter came back in 2011 for what would be the most successful season in Louisville Women's Soccer history.
Hunter quickly established herself as a leader of the team and anchored the back line, guiding the 2011 Cardinals to a Big East Regular Season Championship and advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
Hunter helped guide the Cardinals back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances her senior season in 2013. She concluded her career as one of the all time defensive standouts to play at the University of Louisville.
Following her collegiate career, Hunter enjoyed a successful professional playing career, spending two years overseas in Finland with IK Myran and Merilappi United. Following her time overseas, she returned home and now serves as an assistant coach at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.
Coach Ferguson Dayes on Chelsea Hunter:
"Chelsea was a true student of the game and it is no surprise to me that she is coaching full time now. She was a general on the field and always knew her role as well as everyone else's. She was a great teammate and a great team captain! She came to be affectionately called "Momma" by her teammates due to her willingness to always take care of everyone!"
