Featuring former standout Meredith Miller
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Meredith Miller played for the Cardinals from 2001-04. One of Karen Ferguson-Dayes' first recruits at Louisville, Miller is remembered as one of the great players in Louisville women's soccer history. She was also one of the important early players that helped Louisville achieve success in the early 2000's on a national scale.
To this day, Miller remains the Cardinals' school record holder in career goalkeeper minutes at 5,643 minutes. She also ranks third in career saves (298) and career shutouts (16).
Miller's senior season was a special one for both her individually and the program collectively. In 2004, her senior season, the Cardinals set numerous defensive records that still stand to this day. That team still holds the school record for most shutouts (11), fewest goals allowed (18) and lowest goals against average (0.86).
The success in the early and mid 2000's would ultimately springboard Louisville women's soccer to heights never before seen. Miller held a crucial role for the Cards during this period as she was a consistent presence in goal that helped ensure the Cardinals' defensive consistency. In addition to Miller's contributions on the field she was also an excellent student. She excelled in the classroom and garnered numerous academic accolades in her time at Louisville.
Following Miller's graduation from UofL she joined USA Taekwando as an event manager in 2005. She moved into the role of high performance director in 2007 where she remained until 2013. During her tenure at USA Taekwondo, Miller directed the development of a new online event registration system and tournament management system. She was also named a top-three finalist for the U.S. Olympic Committee's 2012 Doc Counsilman Sport Science Coach of the Year award for her work with a technology-based scouting tool for taekwondo. The technology marked the first time statistics were used to evaluate international competitors in the sport.
Karen Ferguson-Dayes had this to say about Meredith Miller and her impact on the University of Louisville's Women's Soccer Program:
"Meredith came to Louisville from a great club environment at Cleveland Internationals and was able to transition from club soccer to college soccer very well. She was an outstanding goalkeeper, had great size, good hands and a commanding presence. She also was a very diligent student and currently has a fantastic job with the United States Olympic Committee."
