Former Cardinal standout Mallory Lampson is this week's featured alumnae
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Mallory Lampson came to the University of Louisville from Columbus, Ohio after a standout youth career that featured three state championships with Ohio Premier Soccer Club. She quickly inserted herself into the program, starting all 19 games for the Cardinals as a freshman. Lampson finished the 2005 season ranked fourth in goals and fifth in points within the team.
Lampson would follow up her stellar freshman campaign with an even better sophomore year in 2006. During the 2006 season, Lampson would play every minute of every game, finishing the year with an incredible mark of playing every minute for 28 consecutive games. The Cards would earn their first ever NCAA Tournament berth, ultimately losing out to Duke in the opening round of the tournament. At the conclusion of the year Lampson earned Soccer Buzz All-Region third team honors for her standout year.
Her junior year would bring more success for Lampson as she played in all 21 matches, starting in18 for the Cardinals in 2007. She was apart of a back line that allowed just 11 goals all season for a 0.47 goals against average and helped the team to a school record 12 shutouts. While Lampson was limited in minutes due to nagging injuries, she still managed to play every minute in 10 matches. The 2007 Cards would again advance to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season but would bow out again in the first round to Illinois.
Lampson's senior year saw her miss more games due to injury, playing and starting in 14 games over the course of the season. The Cards would not make it back to the NCAA Tournament in her final year but that would not tarnish the fact that Lampson was an integral part of the Louisville women's soccer program. The Cards' success during the mid 2000's that helped shape the future success Louisville would have.
Lampson excelled off the soccer field as well in her time at Louisville earning various academic honors including, Dean's List, Red and Black Scholar Athlete, Big East Academic All-Star Team in each of her four years as a Cardinal.
Lampson will always go down as one of the great players and teammates in Louisville women's soccer history.
