Tennis Falls to Virginia Tech

The University of Louisville women's tennis team picked up the doubles point but could not hold off a hard-charging Hokie team before falling to Virginia Tech 4-2 Sunday evening in Blacksburg.

The Cards scored first when Jessie Paul and Olivia Boesing beat Luisa Uscocovich and Sansitha Nandakumar 6-2 at No. 3. Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg clinched the doubles point when Francesca Fusinato and Caroline Daxhelet 6-4 at No. 1.

The Cards kept the momentum rolling when they scored the first singles point. Tiffany Huber beat Sansitha Nadakumar 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5. But Mariana Humberg dropped a three-set match at No. 3, as did Olivia Boesing at No. 6. No. 97-ranked Natalie Novotna beat Elle Stokes 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 and Aleksandra Mally fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. Abbie Pahz was in a pitched battle at No. 4 with the score locked at 7-6 (7-5), 6-5 when play was suspended.

The Cardinals return home to face No. 45-ranked Miami on April 7 at 11 a.m. and then No. 29-ranked Wake Forest on April 9 at 11 a.m. both at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
