Cards fall 5-2 to ranked Hurricane squad

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 5-2 to ACC foe Miami Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"We caught them healthy," head coach Mark Beckham said. "Sinead Lohan is a Top 10 player and when she is healthy and in the lineup they are a totally different team. Some of their losses came while she was out. I feel we competed against a quality team. I'm disappointed in the loss, but that is the nature of this conference. We have to take our opportunities when we can and Sunday presents another opportunity."

Miami's Silvia Fuentes and Sara Culbertson defeated Olivia Boesing and Jessie Paul 6-3 to give the Hurricanes a quick lead in doubles play at No. 3. Dominka Paterova and Maci Epstein clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg at No. 1. Elle Stokes and Ariana Rodriguez's match with Sinead Lohan and Estela Perez-Somarriba was suspended with Miami leading 5-4.

Aleksandra Mally fell to No. 42-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba 6-2, 6-0 on court 1 to give Miami a 2-0 lead. No. 14-ranked Sinead Lohan took the third point for the Hurricanes with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Elle Stokes. UM's Sara Culbertson clinched the match for the visitors, winning 6-4, 6-1 over Olivia Boesing at No. 6. Abbie Pahz lost to Silvia Fuentes 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-6 to wrap up the match and give the Hurricanes a 5-2 victory.

Uof L got its points when Mariana Humberg won her match 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 over Miami's Paterova at No. 3. Tiffany Huber gave Louisville its second point with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory against Silvia Fuentes.
