Track and Field Set to Compete at the ACC Indoor Championships

Louisville travels to South Bend for the 2017 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's track teams will travel to Notre Dame, Ind. for the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend starting Thursday, February 23rd.
Thursday's schedule will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the men's pentathlon 60-meter hurdles. The women's heptathlon 60-meter dash will follow at 12:00 p.m. The field events will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the men's weight throw, while the running events will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the women's distance medley relay final. Friday's schedule is slated to start at 11:00 a.m. with the women's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. The field and running events will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the men's high jump and the unseeded women's 5,000 meters, respectively. The Saturday events will start at 11:00 a.m. with the women's shot put and women's triple jump. The running events will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles final, followed by the men's 60-meter hurdles final at 12:10 p.m.
The men's field will boast No. 14 Virginia, No. 17 Virginia Tech and No. 24 Syracuse, along with the other 12 ACC schools. The women's field will include No. 14 Miami and the rest of the ACC schools.
Defending Champions: Three Cardinals will attempt to defend their ACC indoor titles this weekend. Last year, redshirt-senior Dolly Nyemah took first in the women's weight throw with a mark of 21.64m/71-0. Nyemah has taken first at one meet this season and has improved her throw to 21.69m/71-02. Senior Damar Robinson had a strong showing at last year's ACC Indoor Championships taking first in the men's high jump clearing 2.19m/7-2¼ and finished third in the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.38m/50-5½. Robinson has finished first in two meets thus far this year, and improved his personal best in the high jump to 2.22m/7-03 ¼ earlier this season at the UK Invitational. Senior Emmonnie Henderson is the last Cardinal attempting to defend a 2016 title. Henderson won the women's shot put with a throw of 16.92m/55-6¼. The senior has won the shot put at four meets this season, with her best throw coming at the Hoosier Open with the mark of 17.17m/56-4.
Last Time Out: Sophomore Raven Grant led the way for the Cardinals with a first place finish in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 24.22 at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. Grant also finished eighth and set a new school record in the women's 400-meter run with a time of 54.94. Senior Bre'Yana Wash finished fourth and also set a new school record in the women's long jump with a jump of 6.26m/20-6 ½.
Junior Javen Reeves tied for fourth in the men's high jump clearing 2.07m/6-9 ½. Dolly Nyemah continued her great indoor season finishing third with a mark of 21.04/69-0 ½. The Cardinals' long distance team also had a strong showing in Nashville. Senior Calvin Chemoiywo finished third in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:19.05, while senior Claire Noser placed sixth in the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 9:45.26.
