Cardinals Close Out Split Weekend at Jim Vargo Invitational and UCF Knights Invite

The University of Louisville track & field teams closed out their split weekend on Saturday at the Jim Vargo Invitational and the UCF Knights Invite.

The majority of the Cardinals competed across town at the Jim Vargo Invitational on Bellarmine's campus, earning three event victories and a total of 10 top-three individual finishes.

The Cards swept the top spot in both pole vault events, as Lydia Stuart recorded an outdoor-best mark of 4.07m (13-4.25) to pick up the win in the women's pole vault and Ty McPhail claimed gold on the men's side with a clearance of 5.01m (16-5.25).

Temi Ariyo tallied the third and final event victory of the meet in the women's 1500m, crossing the line in 4:39.32 in the first outdoor meet of her collegiate career.

Ryan Drwal notably posted a mark of 58.63m (192-4) in the men's javelin throw to improve on his No. 2 mark in program history and secure the ACC standard while also finishing as the runner-up in the event.

The Cards rounded out their weekend with the second and final day of competition at the UCF Knights Invite in Orlando, Fla.

Kaia Tupu-South earned her second event victory of the weekend, notching a toss of 54.35m (178-4) in the women's discus throw to move up to eighth in the Louisville record books.

In the women's 400m, freshman Breanna Braham leapt up to seventh in program history with a time of 54.90 in her first outdoor appearance in the event at the collegiate level.

Up next, the Cardinals will split between three meets for the second consecutive weekend, with the squads slated to compete at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas from Apr. 1-4, the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas from Apr. 2-4, and the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. from Apr. 3-4.
