Women's Soccer Gabby Kouzelos Named ACC Defender of the Week

Redshirt freshman earns her first ACC weekly honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Louisville goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos has been named this week's ACC Defensive Player of the Week while Notre Dame sophomore forward Jennifer Westendorf has been named ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

Kouzelos registered two shutouts against a pair of top 15 teams last week. She helped keep No. 15 Wake Forest scoreless on Thursday, and then held No. 5 North Carolina scoreless for just the second time this season. She finished with four saves against Wake Forest and five against North Carolina. Against the Tar Heels, Kouzelos made a diving save with 1:48 left to play in regulation as Jessie Scarpa had a one-on-one chance in the box.

The Cardinals will wrap up the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 26 at NC State. All 14 ACC teams will complete the regular season on Thursday. Seeds for the 2017 ACC Women's Soccer Championship will be announced that evening following the outcome of those games. The top four seeds will host quarterfinal games on Sunday.
