Women's Tennis Heading into ITA Ohio Valley Regional Play
October 12, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Cards will compete at Middle Tennessee
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a solid weekend at Wake Forest, the University of Louisville women's tennis team continues its fall season with the ITA Division I Ohio Valley Regional Championship on Oct. 12-16 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The tournament will be hosted for the second consecutive year by Middle Tennessee State University.
Â
In addition to MTSU, Louisville will be joined by top area programs such as Vanderbilt, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Cincinnati. Competition will begin on Thursday with the qualifying bracket in both singles and doubles, followed by the commencement of the main 64-player singles and 32-pair doubles brackets on Friday.
Â
Finalists in both fields will earn automatic berths in the 2017 National Fall Championships in Indian Wells, Calif. on Nov. 1-5.
Â
In last year's tournament, three Cardinals, including current seniors Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz, reached the main singles draw. In the doubles field, Humberg and Pahz paired up to reach the quarterfinal round.
Â
Coach Mark Beckham's squad looks to continue the strong momentum from last weekend's performance at the Wake Forest Invitational. Humberg took titles in both A1 singles and A doubles, teaming with Pahz to top Davidson's Anna Catharine Feaster and Samantha Armas, 8-3. Sophomore Raven Neely reached the main final in B2 singles, while Pahz and senior Ariana Rodriguez advanced to the consolation finals in their brackets. Neely and Rodriguez also competed in the main final of the B doubles field.
