Volleyball Opens ACC Slate at Notre Dame and FSU

Cards are 5-5
The University of Louisville volleyball team hits the road to open ACC play this weekend. The Cards will take on Notre Dame on Friday at 7 p.m. in South Bend and Florida State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Tallahassee. This weekend's action will be the start of conference play for all three teams.
About the Cards: The Cardinals (5-5) are coming off a 1-1 weekend as they fell to in-state rival, Kentucky, and beat Lipscomb. The Cards were without three of their starters when they faced the Wildcats, who then wept Louisville 25-15, 25-18, 25-9. Â Louisville overcame a determined Lipscomb squad to beat the Bisons in five sets 27-25, 26-24, 23-25, 18-25, 15-12 the next day in Cardina Arena.
Louisville is led by freshman outside hitter Melanie McHenry with 126 kills and 12 service aces while senior Janelle Jenkins and junior Tess Clark have each contributed 91 and 89 kills respectively. Sophomore Kali Eaken leads the team with 223 assists while senior Lyndsay Palmer has contributed 90.
About Notre Dame: The Irish (9-3) will host the Cardinals on Friday night at 7 p.m. Notre Dame is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Spartan Classic hosted by Michigan State. The  Irish got victories over Maryland-Eastern Shore 3-0 and DePaul 3-2, but fell to No. 22 Michigan State 3-0. The nine non-conference wins are the most for Notre Dame since 2011. The Irish are led by junior Sam Fry with 114 kills, averaging 2.78 kills per set, and leads the team in blocks with 34. Freshman Jemma Yeadon is second on the team with 95 kills, while sophomore Rebecca Nunge is third with 88 kills. Junior setter has 450 assists on the season and averages 10.71 assists per set, while contributing 1.98 digs per set.Â
About FSU: The Seminoles (7-2) host the Cardinals for a Sunday matinee match at 1 p.m. No. 15 Florida State is coming off a 1-1 weekend, falling to in-state rival, No. 7 Florida, 3-1 and defeating LSU 3-0. Florida State is led by junior Milica Kubura with 101 kills, averaging 2.89 kills per set. Senior Katie Horton ranks second having registered 97 kills and 91 digs, while leading the team in service aces with nine. Senior Melanie Keil leads FSU with 57 blocks and has contributed 63 kills to the Seminoles cause. Sophomore setter Brianne Burkert leads the team with 235 assists while senior setter Hailey Luke has contributed 119. Junior Cecilie Woie leads the way with 110 digs for the Seminoles.
Louisville will return to the KFC Yum! Center next week to play host to ACC foes Wake Forest and Duke.
