Volleyball Falls to Notre Dame
September 23, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
Freshman outside hitter Jemma Yeadon had 12 kills and an ace to lead the University of Notre Dame to a 25-15, 25-20, 25-14 win over the University of Louisville in ACC volleyball action Friday night in South Bend, Ind. Â
Â
The middles played phenomenally. I am excited about the play Jasmine Bennett showed tonight. She executed and competed and we need to feed off that," said UofL head coach Anne Kordes. "I believe in this group and we have all the pieces."
Â
The Cards fall to 5-6 and 0-1 in the league. UofL hit .174 and commited nine service errors. Louisville was led offensively by Jasmine Bennett, who had eight kills on 15 swings and no hitting errors. The Irish hit .276 with Sydney Kuhn adding seven kills and two aces. Â
Â
In the first, the Cardinals fell behind early when the Irish had a 4-0 run to go up 12-8. UofL could not overcome ND's .385 hitting led by Jemma Yeadon's five kills and fell 25-15. UofL was hampered by five service errors and .059 hitting.
Â
In the second set, UofL fell back 12-7 and called timeout after a 3-0 Irish run and then again trailing 17-10. Louisville managed a 7-1 run to get within three at 20-17 but hit only .122 and fell 25-20 to spot the Irish a two set lead going into the break.
Â
In the third set, the Cards called timeout when they fall behind 11-6 on two straight miscues. The Irish were undeterred and spread the lead to 15-7 forcing Kordes to burn her last timeout. The Cardinals were unable to string together any kind of run before falling 25-14.
