Seven Baseball Cardinals Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Fitch, Hairston, Lyman, Rosenbaum, Smith, Solak and Tiberi named to 50-person team
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville baseball team led all programs with seven players named to the 2016 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team released Friday by the conference office. The Cardinals were represented on the 50-person team by sophomore catcher Colby Fitch, sophomore shortstop Devin Hairston, junior outfielder Colin Lyman, senior first baseman Danny Rosenbaum, junior catcher Will Smith, junior infielder Nick Solak and redshirt sophomore third baseman Blake Tiberi.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Fitch hit .339 with five home runs, 25 RBI and seven doubles in 27 starts in 2016. Hairston hit .361 with three home runs, 45 RBI, 16 doubles and scored 56 runs while starting all 64 games. Hairston was named as a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award while also earning All-ACC honors.
Lyman closed his third collegiate season with a .301 batting average, 30 RBI and 31 runs scored in 47 starts. Rosenbaum completed his collegiate career by hitting .287 with 10 home runs, 42 RBI and 13 doubles in 56 starts in 2016. An All-ACC honoree and a first round selection in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Smith hit .382 with seven home runs and 43 RBI in 46 starts behind the plate.
An All-American and All-ACC honoree, Solak had a .376 batting average, five home runs, 14 doubles, 29 RBI and 49 runs scored in 47 games this season. Solak closed his collegiate career after being selected in the second round of the MLB Draft by the New York Yankees. Chosen in the third round of the MLB Draft by the New York Mets, Tiberi earned All-ACC honors hitting .340 with 10 home runs, 51 RBI and 18 doubles while starting all 64 games.
The Louisville baseball team closed its 2016 season with a 50-14 record overall after winning its second straight ACC Atlantic Division championship, advancing to a fourth straight NCAA Super Regional and reaching the 50-win plateau for the fourth time in school history.
