Kaela Dickerman scores two goals to lead the Cardinals
The University of Louisville women's soccer team defeated Bowling Green 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Park in spring play. Kaela Dickerman led the Cardinals with two of the three goals.
"Bowling Green gave us a great test in our second spring match of the season," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "They were tough and difficult to break down, their midfield was able to stretch us out a bit and that is something we addressed at halftime and adjusted well with. The goals by Price and Dickerman were all very good and that is great confidence for them as we have been working on our final third build up and execution."
Alison Price got the Cardinals on the board first at the 11:54 mark. Jill Vetere found Price making a great slashing run behind the back line. Price had a perfect first touch and finished in the side netting with her left foot.
Dickerman scored her first goal at 31:04. Off of a defensive corner kick, Bella Habuda started the counter attack with her speed and ability to dribble penetrate. Habuda found a streaking Dickerman who was able to use her athleticism to beat the Bowling Green back line and had a great finish to beat the keeper to the upper 90 with her left foot.
Dickerman scored her second goal at the 71:11 mark. Vetere took control of the ball in the midfield and played a final pass with the outside of her foot to split the Bowling Green back line. Dickerman made a blind side run and her shot ricocheted off a Bowling Green defender to beat the goalkeeper at the near post.
"Vetere had two great assists today, she has great vision and is able to find seams very well," said Ferguson-Dayes. "Our back line was solid and is getting better with each training session this Spring, and both Taylor Bucklin and Victoria Gabor were very good in goal for us. We are busy preparing for Ohio State this Saturday, they will be a very talented and athletic team and should give us another great test to see where we are at so far this spring."
The Cardinals will host Ohio State on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Lynn Stadium. The team and staff will host a post match clinic for girls ages 6-13. The clinic is open to any and all entrants limited by gender, age and grade level. Reserve a spot by emailing Jing Hugley at Jing@gocards.com.
