Volleyball Sweeps Wake Forest
November 06, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
Melanie McHenry had 12 kills and three aces to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 win at Wake Forest Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.
"This win has special meaning for us in light of the lineup change we had to make this morning when we found out Kali couldn't go. Lyndsay Palmer and Morgan Miller did a great job to set us to one of our highest hitting percentages we have had against an ACC opponent. It is good to have Janelle Jenkins back swinging on the right side. It was great to win and to win in a sweep because we have been working so hard. Hats off to Wake Forest for an exciting match."
Â
The Cards out-hit Wake Forest .286 to .103 and used aggressive serving led by Melanie McHenry's two aces to win 25-21. The Cards had jumped out to a 10-7 lead early but Wake tied at 17. The teams traded points but the Cardinals had a 6-3 run late for the win.
Â
In the second set, UofL used .379 hitting with a big block to hold Wake Forest to .143 hitting. UofL used a 6-2 run early to take a 14-11 lead and spark a Deacon timeout. Wake Forest had to call timeout  again down 17-13 but was outscored 8-4 down the stretch for the 25-17 win, allowing Louisville to take a 2-0 set lead in to the break.
Â
Wake used a 6-1 run in the third to take a 15-11 lead but the Cards came back to tie at 21 and then pushed to a 25-23 win. UofL hit .194 in the final set.Â

UofL returns home to host Notre Dame Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in the KFC Yum!
