Cardinals fall for the first time on the road this season to Miami
Coral Gables, Fla. -- The University of Louisville women's soccer team fell to Miami 3-0 on Thursday night at Cobb Stadium. It was the first road loss of the season for the Cardinals, falling to 7-5-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the ACC. Miami improves to 9-7-0 on the year and 4-4-0 in league play.Â
The Hurricanes struck early with a goal by Ronnie Johnson in the ninth minute for a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals pressed forward looking for the equalizer. Sarah Feola had a chance in the ninth minute but it was saved by the Miami keeper.  Inger Katrine Bjerke's header off a corner kick from Brooklynn Rivers went just wide in the 26th minute.Â
Louisville had a series of shots in the 40th minute but could not convert on the two back-to-back corner kicks. In the 45th minute, Miami's had a dangerous chance but Bucklin made a stellar save, knocking the ball over the crossbar to keep the Cardinals within a goal at the break.Â
Miami had seven shot attempts to Louisville's six and notched three shots on goal to the Cardinals' two at the half.Â
Rivers had two solid chances in the 62nd minute of play. Her shot missed just wide and then moments later she sent another shot that was saved. The Hurricanes kept the offensive pressure up in the second half, finding the net again in the 81st minute when the Cardinals had pressed forward. Following a Miami corner kick, the ball was played back into the box from the opposite corner and after rolling around, it landed with Johnson, who sent a vicious strike past Bucklin.
Under three minutes later, Johnson scored yet again.
Miami goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce logged three saves while Taylor Bucklin finished with five saves. The Hurricanes finished the match with an 11-14 shot advantage. While the Cardinals held a 7-5 corner kick advantage.Â
The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 23 as they travel to No. 7 Florida State.Â
