
Women’s Soccer Falls 1-0 at No. 7 Florida State on Sunday Afternoon

The Seminoles score a late goal in the second half to defeat the Cardinals
Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State (12-2-2, 6-1-2) scored a goal in the 81st minute to defeat the University of Louisville (7-6-4, 2-4-3 ACC) women's soccer team 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
The Cardinal defense was strong in the first half, holding the Seminoles to just one shot in the first 45 minutes. The shot was on goal andTaylor Bucklin was there to make the stop.
The Cardinals outshot the Noles 6-1 in the opening 45 minutes. The best scoring chance came in the 35th minute as Sarah Feola's cross went to Kaela Dickerman at the top of the six-yard box. She made a collecting touch and turned for a strong shot toward the right post, but FSU's Cassie Miller was there for the save.
The Cardinals came out and put on some early pressure to open the second half, but for all of their possession in the offensive third, they were unable to record a shot past FSU defensive line.
Florida State had a trio of corners in the 66th and 67th minutes, but neither set piece was able to turn into a shot as the match remained tied at 0-0.
The next 14 minutes of the match was a defensive battle for both teams as neither team recorded a shot, but Florida State committed three fouls and Louisville committed five of their own.
Olivia Bergau sent a cross to the far post, finding Megan Connolly to head it past a diving Bucklin for a 1-0 lead.
Florida State clamped down defensively in the final nine minutes, holding the Cardinals without a shot.
Louisville outshot FSU 6-5 for the game, but the Noles held a 4-0 advantage in corners and a 4-3 lead in shots on goal.
The Cardinals will wrap up the regular season as they host No. 10 Virginia on Thursday, Oct. 27 in Lynn Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
