McKinney will join the Cardinals in January
Louisville, KY.-- University of Louisville women's soccer coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes has announced that Callie McKinney has signed with the Cardinals. She will begin her collegiate career in the January of 2016 after graduating from Franklin High School in December.
"We are thrilled that Callie McKinney will be joining our Cardinal Family and we are super excited that she has graduated high school early and will be starting college this spring," said Ferguson-Dayes. "She will benefit greatly from having a full semester to get acclimated academically and athletically during our non traditional season."
McKinney has played eight years of travel soccer with Impact, TNFC, and TSC soccer clubs. She has played with GSA ECNL soccer team at U16, U17, and U18 as a discovery player. Her Tennessee travel team has won seven straight years as D1 state champions. They also won the Region 3 title three years in a row at U14, U15, and U16.
"Callie plays for two great club teams and coaches and her affiliation with the Regional program is invaluable for her development as a player," Ferguson-Dayes said. "Beyond Callie's ability to help us compete in the premier women's soccer conference in the country, the ACC, we are excited to add someone with so much personality and character. She is a tireless worker, a selfless teammate and is constantly pursuing excellence. Callie will make a wonderful impact on our University both as a student and an athlete."
McKinney was awarded the MVP award at U15. At U13, they finished as the National League runner up at Nationals. Callie has participated in ODP since U12, making the Region 3 team at U16 and U17. She was selected to the Boca Inter-regional games at U16 and U17. She received recognition as one of The Best 11 honors at U16 making her the first girl from Tennessee to win this award. She was also selected to go to Costa Rica at U16 and to Italy and Switzerland at U17. She has been invited to the US Olympic training center several times.
