Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville Women's Soccer Team has continued to stay active during its spring season with two games in the past two weeks. The first spring game pitted the Cardinals against Middle Tennessee State at Cardinal Park. Despite the game ending in a 0-0 draw, Louisville saw many chances on the day that were not converted into goals. Freshman goalkeeper Paige Brown played all 90 minutes in goal for the Cardinals. In the second game of the spring, Louisville played host to Ohio State and came out victorious with a final score of 1-0. Brown recorded the shutout in goal.
The team also held its annual awards banquet at the PNC Club at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium this past Saturday. Awards were handed out to student-athletes as voted on by both the coaches and players. Senior Charlyn Corral was named Team MVP, while seniors Rachel Melhado and Christine Exeter were named Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year respectively. Sophomore Lexie Nieboda and senior Katie Walz split "12th Man" honors for the season.
Junior Erin Yenney was given the Cardinal Award, which is awarded every year to the student-athlete "who maintains a 3.0 GPA, displays strong leadership abilities, and takes tremendous pride in representing the University of Louisville as well as the community." Senior Megan Berberich was given the Coach's Award, an honor given to the student-athlete selected by her coaches who has "demonstrated a commitment to academics and athletics through her dedication, hard work, perseverance and positive attitude."
Louisville will play one more home contest this coming Saturday, April 5. The Cardinals will take on Tennessee in their final match at Cardinal Park Soccer Stadium. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. and admission is free.
