SETTING THE STAGE
Louisville enters the matchup with a 6-7-2 overall record and a 2-3-2 league record. The Cards are currently ranked ninth in the ACC. The Cardinals fell 2-1 on Sunday to No. 3 Virginia in Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Louisville struck early with the first goal of the game in the 19th minute. The Cavaliers responded, scoring the five minutes later, and then equalizer five minutes later and then took a 2-1 lead two minutes before halftime.
Freshman Isabella Habuda leads Louisville in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points. Freshman Alison Price ranks second on the team with three goals for six points. Sophomore keeper Paige Brown leads the team in goal with 34 saves and a 1.36 goals against average.
Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 15th season with the Cardinals. She has guided Louisville to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011. Under the direction of Ferguson-Dayes, Louisville has achieved double-digit wins in the last four consecutive seasons.
SCOUTING PITTSBURGH
The Pittsburgh Panthers enter the game with an overall record of 6-9-0 and a 2-5-0 league record. Pittsburgh hosted No. 2 Florida State last Saturday, resulting in a 3-0 loss for the Panthers. Despite the loss, Pittsburgh goalkeeper Taylor Francis tied the school's saves record with a career-high 16 saves.
Junior Roosa Arvas leads the Panthers in scoring with nine goals and two assists for 20 points. Freshman Taylor Pryce ranks second on the team in scoring with three goals and three assists for nine points. Sophomore keeper Taylor Francis has collected 94 saves and holds a 1.26 goals against average.
Head coach Greg Miller is in his 3rd season leading the University of Pittsburgh women's soccer program. After two seasons, Miller has the Pitt program moving in the right direction. Last year, Pitt competed in its first season in the ACC, arguably the nation's most competitive women's soccer league. He followed that up by signing the highest rated recruiting class in the history of the Pitt women's soccer program as the 12-member 2014 class was ranked No. 14 nationally.
THE SERIES
Today is the fifth meeting between Louisville and Pittsburgh. The Cardinals lead the series 3-1-0. The last meeting between the two teams was on Oct. 1, 2010 at Cardinal Park, Pittsburgh defeated the Cardinals 2-0.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals will travel to South Bend, Ind. to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Oct. 26. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
CARDINALS QUICK HITS
Since changing the lineup in the second half of the Kent State game, including the back line the Cardinals have gone 4-3-2.
Chatham DeProspo was one of the lineup changes, moving from midfield to center back. Since the change the Cardinals have registered three shutouts.
Senior Erin Yenney started the season up front but also moved back to the midfield. The senior has been a staple in the midfield since her freshman season.
Paige Brown ranks ninth in saves in ACC play with 20 on the year. She also ranks 10th in saves per game with 2.86 per game.
Brown is also tied for third in league shutouts with three on the year.
As a team the Cardinals are tied for fourth in the league stats for shutouts.
CARDINALS IN OVERTIME
The Cardinals are 1-0-2 in overtime games this season. Louisville is 1-0 in single overtime matches, defeated Kent State 3-2 in overtime. The Cards are 0-0-2 in double overtime with a 1-1 tie against Miami and a scoreless tie with Duke.
