LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Zakiya McIntosh, a rising junior forward for the University of Louisville women's soccer team, excelled in multiple sports while attending athletics powerhouse Pickering High School in Ajax, Ontario, Canada. Though she excelled athletically, McIntosh also exhibited a great passion for theatre.
McIntosh credits her experiences in theatre with providing her priceless perspective on life.
"Theatre has always been one of my great passions, and participating in my high school's theatre productions provided me with experiences that will forever shape my perspective on life," explained McIntosh.
While off the stage and outside of the classroom, McIntosh excelled athletically. The experience of competing in team sports provided her with another avenue for expression and personal growth.
"Playing soccer and other team sports allowed me to express myself in complex ways and develop new relationships," said McIntosh.
Majoring in psychology with a minor in theatre, McIntosh continues to be involved and participate in theatre while managing her life as a Division I student-athlete.
"As of now, I am looking to become more involved with the theater program at UofL and hopefully find the time to audition and take part in a school production," McIntosh said. "Although theater is my minor, becoming an actor continues to be a dream of mine and will always be the source of my passions and inspirations."
Having adjusted to life in Louisville, McIntosh looks to continue her growth as a student-athlete and as a student in the arts.
"I have made Louisville my home and am growing to love this great city."
