What a week in sports to be a Louisville fan...by Angelika Uremovich
Hello again Cardinal Fans! What a week in sports to be a Louisville fan!!
Last Sunday, we defeated Ole Miss 1-0 in our second game of the spring season. Junior Charlyn Corral made her spring debut by placing a left-footed shot right over the goalkeeper's head... welcome back Cha-Cha!
Then the Ville went crazy when both our men and women's basketball teams won their Final Four games and moved on to the championship games. Our men played Michigan on Monday and fought for an incredible win for our third NCAA championship! Congratulations to the men! A handful of our team made the trip to experience the excitement in Atlanta and those that stayed in Louisville got to scream and jump, rock and sway (literally) with the crowds flooding the streets. UofL students and the Louisville community joined to take over the town with celebrations. Several news stations covered the hype and showed air shots of the crowds gone wild. Twitter and Facebook were blowing up with love for our school and this week has been a little slower than normal with the student body trying to collect themselves for the wrap up of the semester. Things seem to get put on hold when there is something as big as a national championship to celebrate!
Our women's basketball team had a fantastic run this season and though they did not clench the title against UConn on Tuesday night, the Cardinal Community is celebrating their journey and great successes. Congratulations to both our men's and women's basketball teams for a thrilling season!
Our team is looking forward to playing two games at home this weekend -- this Friday at 7 pm and this Sunday at 1 pm. It will be a beautiful weekend for some soccer, so bring your Cardinal Spirit to Cardinal Park and cheer for your women's soccer team! Go Cards!
