LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Casey Whitfield, a rising junior forward for the Louisville women's soccer team, grew up in Louisville dreaming of playing soccer. That dream included not only playing college soccer, but playing for her hometown Cardinals.
"One thing I always knew from a young age was I wanted to play soccer in college, more specifically UofL," explained Whitfield. "I was born and raised a Card and my family is full of UofL fans. When I got the chance to attend Louisville and play soccer, it was like a dream come true. All of the hard work really paid off."
Whitfield's love and dedication to soccer and Louisville is apparent, but she credits an unlikely source for complimenting her game. At the age of three, Whitfield began dancing, more specifically, tap dancing. Tap dancing improved her soccer game and complimented her growth as a soccer player and individual.
As Whitfield grew, she continued to excel at both soccer and tap dancing travelling the country dancing while balancing her time with her club soccer team.
"Dance has truly helped me become a better athlete, soccer player, and person," she said.
Whitfield continues to tap dance in conjunction with her role on the women's soccer team.
"To this day, I continue to tap dance and attend classes when I can," said Whitfield. "I hope to one day go to New York and learn under the professionals there and really further my knowledge of tap dancing.
"Tap dancing and soccer are truly my passions in life and have really made me the person I am today. I hope to one day either teach dance or coach soccer and share the passion I have with others. I hope I can inspire them to follow their dreams as well."
