LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Giving back to the city of Louisville through community service events is important to the University of Louisville women's soccer program and the Cardinals have remained very busy in 2013.
Last month, the UofL players visited Our Lady of Lourdes Church to work as volunteer coaches at recreation soccer practice. A week later, a group of Cardinals participated in the Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade.
On March 22, the Louisville players coached third, fourth and fifth graders at Our Lady of Lourdes during their rec practice. The Cardinals helped the girls learn the importance of ball control, the fundamentals of ball striking and introduced some new moves to help in their confidence as they compete 1v1. The players also spoke to the group on the importance of academics in conjunction with their athletic dreams.
On March 30, the Cardinals attended the annual Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade. Running from Stilz Avenue to Haldeman Avenue and Frankfort Avenue, many neighborhood folks and businesses build floats and create banners for the parade. Marching bands, karate groups, boy scouts, local Shriners also entertain and march down the street while passing out candy to all of the kids watching along the sidewalks of Frankfort Avenue.
