Women's Soccer Spotlight: Megan Berberich

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Adelante is Spanish for "forward," which is the direction Megan Berberich prefers to head in the classroom, as an individual and as an athlete. Berberich, a rising senior defender/forward for the Louisville women's soccer team, is the personification of student-athlete and an example of someone using her studies to better her community.
Berberich is a dual-major, a rarity among typical collegiate students and even more rare for student-athletes, who have to manage their time to balance the challenges of competing, studying and being a young adult. Though busier than most, Berberich finds balance in the challenges she faces, both as a student and as an athlete.
"I am a dual major in Biology and Spanish, and although the course work is difficult and demanding, I am glad that I am doing both," she explained.
The rigorous schedule of being a dual-major and Division I student-athlete has not prevented Berberich from applying what she learns in the classroom to benefit the local community. She is using her studies in Spanish to assist her as she volunteers with a local Hispanic program, Adelante Hispanic Achievers, a program used to assist students in both school and life lessons. And Berberich uses the lessons that she helps teach to younger students in her own daily life - now and in the future.
"Learning the language of Spanish is something that I know I will be able to use throughout my life, no matter the career path I choose," she said.
Berberich is looking forward to her senior soccer season as well as her senior coursework as she prepares for the next step in her growth as an individual.
"There is always room to grow, to improve and to be better than you were the day before," said Berberich. "I get to do what I love doing every day. Of course, it's a challenge at times, but that is what makes it worth it."
Berberich is a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll selection, a two-time Red & Black Scholar, a BIG EAST Academic All-Star and a member of the Dean's List. She hopes to continue working with the Hispanic community after graduation and looks "forward" to balancing the challenges that life holds.
