LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Giving back to the city of Louisville through community service events is a priority to the University of Louisville women's soccer program and the Cardinals have been very busy in 2013.
To open the month of February, UofL players participated in the Louisville women's basketball Girl Scout Day. Days later, the Cardinals also celebrated Black History Month with a visit to Cochran Elementary School.
On Feb. 2, Jenna Andersen, Lauren Nash and Irene Young represented the soccer team by doing crafts & activities with the Girl Scouts prior to the women's basketball home game against Georgetown. The trio of Andersen, Nash and Young helped the Girl Scouts earn their Louisville First badge.'
Less than a week later, Louisville defender Rachel Melhado visited the students at Cochrane where she talked to students in grades K-5 about what Black History Month means to her. She talked about why it's important to be educated on black history and how her life has been impacted.
Next week, GoCards.com will feature another Louisville women's soccer community service spotlight with details on how the Cardinals are giving back with their time and energy.
