FINAL COUNTDOWN...by Megan Berberich
This is it! The week before Spring Break is finally over. Many of us on the women's soccer team have had tests, papers, outlines, projects and midterms over the past several weeks and are anticipating the much-awaited break. And of course, like everything we do, we are going to use that time to get the most out of it as possible. Let me fill you in on all of our fun activities that we have planned.
Rachel Melhado, Courtney Holtz and Chloe Kiefer will be catching some rays in sunny South Padre, Texas. Shannon Dennehey and Devyn Ciotti will also head south to West Palm Beach, Fla. Katie Walz is jumping on board to Florida too, at Panama City. Going to Panama, Panama the country that is, are Casey Whitfield and Charlyn Corral. Vamos! These lucky ladies will get some fun in the sun for a week or so. Enjoying the weather out west are Emily Cardell and Lexie Niedoba. Emily will be heading to Arizona and Lex will be hanging out at Lake Tahoe.
Not all of us will be so lucky with the weather, but we will still be having a good time anyway. Our Michigan crew, Chelsea Hunter, Irene Young and Jenna Andersen, will be going home to their families to enjoy some colder weather and joining them for a short time is Kim Sharo. Also going home are Sydney Blomquist to Maryland, Nicole Gerber to New York, Grace Ayodele to Illinois, Erin Yenney to Ohio, Lauren Nash to snowy Minnesota, and Nicole Mitchell to the little town of Guelph, Ontario. Angelika Uremovich will be traveling to a different part of Canada, Vancouver, British Columbia, to visit her brother. Staying in Louisville are Hannah Konermann and Zakiya McIntosh. Christine Exeter, Julie Casselman and I will hopefully get the opportunity to make a road trip to New York City in order to support the men's basketball team in the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden.
As a team, we will have people in different states all over the U.S. and in three countries. What representation! However, just because we'll be in amazing places, doesn't mean the break is all fun and games. We will still be working hard in preparation for our spring games that will be coming up when we get back. Heather Engel, our strength and conditioning coach, has put together a workout packet for us to do throughout the week in order to improve and maintain our fitness and strength. When we return from break, we will have one week and then will head to Ohio State for our first spring game on March 23, where we hope to see some fans!
Thanks for tuning in this week, and don't forget to check back in next Friday for the next update on your UofL women's soccer team! Go Cards!
