Cardinals Host Illinois State in NCAA First Round on Saturday

The Louisville women's soccer team will host Illinois State in a first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m., ET in Cardinal Park.
The Cardinals enter the NCAA Championship with a 12-5-1 record overall. Directing the way for the Cardinals is head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes, who has guided the Cards to all four of the NCAA bids. Louisville is led offensively by seniors Charlyn Corral and Christine Exeter. Corral the 2013 American Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Year led the Cardinals in scoring with 13 goals and 11 assists for 37 points. Exter, the 2013 American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, ranks second on the team in scoring with nine points and 11 assists for 29 points. Defensively, Louisville is anchored by senior Rachel Melhado and Chelsea Hunter. They have helped guide the Cardinals to four shutouts this season.
Illinois State enters the NCAA Championship with a 14-6 record overall after earning the automatic bid from the Missouri Valley Conference with its third straight MVC Tournament title on Sunday. The Redbirds enter Saturday's game riding a season-high nine-game winning streak. Directed by head coach Drew Roff, who is in his 7th season at the helm, Illinois State's offense is led by two double-figure goal scorers in Rachel Tejada (15 goals, 12 assists), and Hannah Leinert (15 goals, six assists). Saturday's game will be the first meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Redbirds.
The winner of Saturday's Louisville-Illinois State match will advance to a second round game against either No. 3 seed Michigan or Milwaukee.
