LOUISVILLE, Ky. - This week's Louisville women's soccer notebook includes Angelika Uremovich's BIG EAST recognition, the Cardinals latest top 25 ranking and the return of Christine Exeter and Rachel Melhado.
Uremovich Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
Junior midfielder Angelika Uremovich was named to the weekly BIG EAST honor roll on Monday after scoring a pair of goals in the Cardinals' 4-3 double overtime win against Purdue on Friday night. Uremovich leads Louisville (2-0-0) with three goals this season and has 12 career goals as a Cardinal.
Cardinals Enter Soccer America Top 15
Following last week's dramatic win over Purdue, the Cardinals moved up four spots to No. 14 in this week's Soccer America Top 25 poll released on Tuesday. Louisville is one of four BIG EAST Conference teams in the poll joining Marquette (No. 8), Georgetown (tie-No. 25) and Rutgers (tie-No. 25).
Exeter and Melhado Return to Louisville Following FIFA U-20 World Cup
Louisville coaches and players welcomed back standouts Christine Exeter and Rachel Melhado to campus on Wednesday following their matches with Canada at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan. Exeter scored a goal and added an assist while starting all three matches for Canada, while Melhado started on the backline throughout the event for the national team. Canada was eliminated from the event in group play with Monday's loss to North Korea.
Up Next for the Cardinals
Louisville will next travel to Lexington, Ky., for the UK Tropical Smoothie Invitational. The unbeaten Cardinals will open the event on Friday at 5 p.m., ET against Southeast Missouri before concluding the weekend against UNC-Greensboro on Sunday at noon.
