PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Freshman right-hander Jared Ruxer was named BIG EAST Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after his impressive performance in the Louisville baseball team's 12-0 win at No. 1 Kentucky last week.
Ruxer (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central HS) pitched 6.0 shutout innings allowing only three hits with a career-best six strikeouts to earn the victory as the Cardinals became the first team this season to shut out the Wildcats. Overall, Ruxer is 5-0 with a 1.98 in 2012 and has won five of his six starts as a Cardinal.
Ruxer is the third Cardinal to earn BIG EAST Player/Pitcher of the Week honors this season joining sophomore infielder Ty Young (March 19) and senior outfielder/first baseman Stewart Ijames (Feb. 27).
The 22nd-ranked Louisville baseball team returns to action with a road game at Indiana on Tuesday at 3 p.m., ET in Bloomington. The IU game will be followed by a pivotal series at BIG EAST leader USF this weekend in Tampa, Fla.
