
Team Canada Wins Group at CONCACAF Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With Louisville women's soccer standouts Christine Exeter and Rachel Melhado playing significant minutes, Team Canada's U20 National Team went 3-0 to win Group A at the 2012 CONCACAF Women's U20 Championship and advance to the semifinal round.
After earning group wins over Haiti (5-0), Jamaica (2-0) and Mexico (1-0), Team Canada will challenge Panama in a semifinal match on Friday at 8 p.m., ET in Panama City, Panama. With a win on Friday, Canada will qualify for the 2012 FIFA U20 World Cup in Japan on Aug. 19-Sept. 8. Friday's other semifinal match features the United States against Mexico.
Exeter earned All-America honors and was the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2012 after scoring 14 goals with three assists for the Cardinals, which advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history in 2011. Melhado, a team captain for Team Canada, started all 24 games as a sophomore for Louisville's backline and was a key component as the Cards won a school record 14 games and had nine shutouts last fall.
