
Team Canada Advances to Title Game of CONCACAF Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Team Canada's U20 National Team, which includes Louisville women's soccer standouts Christine Exeter and Rachel Melhado, clinched a berth in the 2010 FIFA U20 World Cup with a dominating 6-0 victory over host Panama in the semifinal round of the 2012 CONCACAF Women's U20 Championship on Friday in Panama City.
Canada advances to play the United States, a 4-0 semifinal winner over Mexico, in the championship round on Sunday night and fans can watch the game live online at concacaf.com. Overall, both Canada and the United States have won all of their matches at the CONCACAF Championship. With Friday's win, Canada will compete at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Japan on Aug. 19-Sept. 8.
Exeter earned All-America honors and was the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2012 after scoring 14 goals with three assists for the Cardinals, which advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history in 2011. Melhado, a team captain for Team Canada, started all 24 games as a sophomore for Louisville's backline and was a key component as the Cards won a school record 14 games and had nine shutouts last fall.
