KANSAS CITY, Kan. - For the 12th consecutive season, the Louisville women's soccer team was honored for its effort in the classroom as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named the Cardinals to its College Team Academic Award list.
Louisville has earned the honor in each of Karen Ferguson-Dayes' 12 seasons as head coach. To be eligible a team must have a cumulative grade point average above 3.0.
On the field, the Cardinals had their best season in school history advancing to the program's first NCAA Sweet 16 and closing 2011 ranked 24th in the final NSCAA coaches' poll. With its 14-7-3 record overall, Louisville set a school record for wins while also earning its first ever BIG EAST Conference National Division title. Making its third NCAA Championship appearance ever, U of L earned a first round win over Dayton and eliminated No. 4 seeded and previously unbeaten Memphis in the second round before falling to No. 1 seed Florida State in the Sweet 16.
Individually, sophomore forward Christine Exeter was named to the 2011 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-America Team as a third team selection and was the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Year. She scored 14 goals and totaled 31 points overall for the Cardinals.
