LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After a successful start to the opening weekend of league play, the Louisville women's soccer team will take to the road this weekend for a pair of BIG EAST Conference games at Connecticut and Providence.
Kickoff for the Cardinals and Huskies is set for 7 p.m., ET at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. Sunday's game for Louisville against the Friars is set for 1 p.m., ET at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Live scoring for both weekend games will be available through Gametracker at UofLSports.com.
Louisville enters the weekend at 3-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in BIG EAST games. In their league opener last Friday night, the Cardinals earned a 1-0 victory at No. 12 Notre Dame, which ended a 62-game unbeaten streak in BIG EAST games for the Fighting Irish. Freshman Erin Yenney had the game-winning goal, while senior Chloe Kiefer had five saves in her third shutout of the season. On Sunday, Louisville played to a 1-1 tie against visiting DePaul in the BIG EAST home-opener at Cardinal Park.
Connecticut enters the weekend at 4-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in BIG EAST games after splitting two games last weekend. The Huskies opened the weekend with 1-0 home win over Syracuse on Friday before suffering a 1-0 overtime loss at St. John's on Sunday.
Friday's game will be the fourth meeting all-time between Louisville and UConn with the Cardinals trailing 0-2-1 overall. Last season, U of L lost 3-0 in Storrs in the opening round of the BIG EAST Championship. This will be just the third regular season matchup between the two schools.
Providence, which will host Cincinnati on Friday afternoon, enters the weekend at 3-3-4 overall and 1-1-0 in league games after splitting a pair of games last week. The Friars picked up a 2-0 home win over St. John's on Friday before dropping a 1-0 decision at Syracuse on Sunday.
Sunday's game will be just the third meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Friars with U of L holding a 1-0-1 advantage. In the most recent meeting, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 5, 2008 in Louisville.
Following this weekend's action, Louisville will return home to host Marquette (Sept. 30, 7 p.m., ET) and USF (Oct. 2, 1 p.m., ET) at Cardinal Park.
