LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville women's soccer team will open BIG EAST Conference play on Friday at No. 12 Notre Dame before hosting DePaul on Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Park.
Kickoff for the Cardinals and Fighting Irish in the conference opener is set for 5 p.m., ET at Alumni Stadium. Sunday's BIG EAST home-opener for Louisville against the Blue Demons is set for 1 p.m., ET. Live scoring for both weekend games will be available through Gametracker at UofLSports.com.
Louisville enters the weekend at 2-4-1 overall after splitting a pair games at last weekend's Tropical Smoothie Invitational in Lexington, Ky. After opening the event with a 2-0 loss to host Kentucky on Friday, the Cardinals rebounded for a 1-0 double-overtime win against Butler. Sophomore Katie Walz scored the game-winner 48 seconds into the second overtime period to clinch the victory.
Friday's game will be the 10th meeting all-time between Louisville and Notre Dame with the Cardinals trailing 1-8-0 overall. Last season, U of L dropped a 5-0 decision at home to Notre Dame, which closed the season by winning an NCAA title.
Notre Dame enters the weekend at 3-3-1 overall after finishing 0-1-1 last weekend at the Stanford Invitational. The Irish opened the weekend with a 2-1 loss to No. 2 Stanford on Friday before playing to a 1-1 tie against No. 17 Santa Clara on Sunday.
Sunday's game will be the 16th meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Blue Demons with U of L holding an 8-7 advantage. Louisville has won five of the last meetings between the two programs, including a 2-1 victory last season in Chicago.
DePaul, which will host Cincinnati on Friday afternoon, enters the weekend at 2-5 overall after earning a pair of wins last week. The Blue Demons picked up a 1-0 win at Loyola on Friday before returning home for a 2-1 overtime triumph against Minnesota.
Following this weekend's action, the Cardinals will return to the road for BIG EAST road games at Connecticut (Sept. 23, 7 p.m., ET) and Providence (Sept. 25, 1 p.m., ET).
