LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball program has 16 former players on active rosters in professional baseball in 2011, including five in Double-A or higher.
Listed below are all of the professional assignments for the Louisville baseball alumni and recent pro ball notes on some of the former Cardinals through Sunday, July 24.
Triple-A
- Sean Green (UofL, 1998-2000), Milwaukee Brewers/Nashville Sounds
- Is 1-5 with six saves, 31 strikeouts and a 4.11 ERA in 23 appearances and 35.0 innings in Nashville
- Was optioned to Nashville in early May after starting season with Brewers
- Trystan Magnuson (UofL, 2004-07), Oakland A's/Sacramento River Cats
- Is 4-2 with five saves, 46 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA in 30 relief appearances and 45.1 innings in Sacramento this year
- Has three relief appearances for the A's this summer, including a June 30 outing when he pitched 3.1 shutout innings with two strikeouts against the Florida Marlins
Double-A
- Chris Cates (UofL, 2004-07), Minnesota Twins/New Britain Rock Cats
- Hitting .209 with five RBI and 19 runs scored in 58 games for New Britain this season
- Chris Dominguez (UofL, 2006-09), San Francisco Giants/Richmond Flying Squirrels
- Was promoted from Single-A San Jose to Double-A Richmond on June 16
- Hitting .271 with four home runs, 28 RBI, 12 doubles and 19 runs scored in 37 games with Richmond
- Hit .291 with 11 home runs, 40 RBI and 10 doubles in 63 games for San Jose this season before the promotion
- B.J. Rosenberg (UofL, 2004-08), Philadelphia Phillies/Reading Phillies
- Is 4-4 with 79 strikeouts and a 4.55 ERA in 83.0 innings of work this season. He has 13 starts for Reading and 24 total appearances on the mound in 2011.
Single-A/Rookie
- Jeff Arnold (UofL, 2007-10), San Francisco Giants/Augusta GreenJackets (Low A)
- Hitting .210 with three home runs, 14 doubles and 14 RBI in 59 games for Augusta, where he plays alongside former Louisville teammate Adam Duvall
- Andrew Clark (UofL, 2008-10), Texas Rangers/Hickory Crawdads (Low A)
- Hitting .308 with 10 home runs, 18 doubles and 50 RBI in 86 games played for Hickory, where he plays alongside former Louisville teammate Josh Richmond
- Was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week on July 18 after helping lead the Crawdads to a 5-1 record during the week of July 11-17. He hit .391 (9-for-23) with four home runs and 12 RBIs in the team's six games that week. Clark also added two doubles, seven runs scored and four walks, while posting a .481 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
- Adam Duvall (UofL, 2009-10), San Francisco Giants/Augusta GreenJackets (Low A)
- Hitting .291 with 20 home runs, 76 RBI, 24 doubles and 59 runs scored in 95 games this summer for Augusta, where he plays alongside former Louisville teammate Jeff Arnold
- Was named Most Valuable Player of June 21 South Atlantic League All-Star Game in Salisbury, Md., after going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in leading the South to a 6-3 win over the North
- Also competed in the South Atlantic League Home Run Derby prior to the All-Star Game
- J.J. Ethel (UofL, 2010-11), Los Angeles Dodgers/AZL Dodgers (Rookie Arizona League)
- Made professional debut in Arizona League on June 29
- In four games played this summer, he is hitting .467 with one home run, seven RBI and two doubles
- Neil Holland (UofL, 2008-10), Washington Nationals/Potomac Nationals (High A)
- Was promoted from Low-A Hagerstown to High-A Potomac on June 29
- Is 1-0 with one save, six strikeouts and no runs allowed in six relief appearances and 9.0 innings of work for Potomac
- Was 1-0 with one save, 22 strikeouts and a 1.13 ERA in 16 appearances and 24.0 innings pitched for Hagerstown before promotion
- Dean Kiekhefer (UofL, 2008-10), St. Louis Cardinals/Quad Cities River Bandits (Low A)
- Is 3-1 with 25 strikeouts and a 2.02 ERA in 21 relief appearances and 35.2 innings of work for Quad Cities
- Bob Revesz (UofL, 2008-10), St. Louis Cardinals/Johnson City Cardinals (Rookie)
- Has not played this season
- Josh Richmond (UofL, 2008-10), Texas Rangers/Hickory Crawdads (Low A)
- Hitting .260 with eight home runs, 25 doubles and 34 RBI in 91 games for Hickory, where he plays alongside former Louisville teammate Andrew Clark
- Thomas Royse (UofL, 2008-10), Chicago White Sox/Bristol White Sox (Rookie)
- Has not played this season due to injury
- Justin Marks (UofL, 2007-09), Kansas City Royals/Wilmington Blue Rocks (High A)
- Is 5-7 with 93 strikeouts and a 4.70 ERA in 20 appearances on the mound for Wilmington
- Has 14 starts this season with two complete games
- Ryan Wright (UofL, 2009-11), Cincinnati Reds/AZL Reds (Rookie Arizona League)
- Made professional debut in Arizona League on July 19
- Through five games, he is hitting .318 with one home run, five RBI and four runs scored
- Phil Wunderlich (UofL, 2008-10), Tampa Bay Rays/Bowling Green Hot Rods (Low A)
- Hitting .280 with 12 home runs, 23 doubles and 65 RBI in 93 games for Bowling Green
- Was a reserve for the Eastern Division in the June 21 Midwest League All-Star Game in Davenport, Iowa
- Was an All-Star Game selection in the New York-Penn League in 2010
Independent
- Griffin Bailey (UofL, 2003-06), Fort Worth Cats (American Association of Independent Baseball)
- He is 0-1 with one save, a 3.55 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 38.0 innings of relief for Fort Worth
