Louisville Team Notes

Louisville set a new school record by allowing four runs or fewer for the 10th straight game (all nine games this season plus the 2010 finale). The previous record of nine games was first set in 1958 (April 23-May 9) and then matched in 2007 (March 16-30).

U of L's 10-game streak is the longest for a BIG EAST team since St. John's put together an 11-game streak in the final month of the 2006 season. West Virginia also had a lengthy stretch during the 2006 campaign, allowing four runs or less in 15 straight games during its 17-game winning streak that year (March 7-28).

Louisville starting pitchers have allowed two earned runs or fewer in all 10 of the games (the staff as a whole has not given up more than three earned runs in any of the contests).

The Cardinals have allowed 18 runs thus far in 2011, the lowest total in school history for the first nine games of a season.

The ERA for Louisville starting pitching now sits at 1.39 for the year, while the bullpen's mark is 2.01 (total team ERA of 1.63)

After Justin Amlung's masterpiece, Cardinal starters have allowed just two earned runs in their last 22.1 innings on the mound (0.81 ERA).

Louisville has posted a combined ERA of 1.66 in its last seven wins over Kent State, allowing the Golden Flashes just 17 runs in those games.

The Cardinals have won seven of the past 10 meetings with the Golden Flashes.

U of L has won at least seven of its first nine games for the second consecutive season (began 13-0 last year) after not accomplishing the feat since 2003 (also 7-2)

Head coach Dan McDonnell improves to 17-5 against MAC teams since taking over the Louisville program.

Louisville Player Notes

Sophomore starter Justin Amlung put together another dominant outing, retiring 17 straight at one point during his 7.0 innings of one-hit, one-run ball.

Amlung is the first Cardinal pitcher to yield a hit or less in a start of at least 7.0 innings since Thomas Royse's 8.0 inning, one-hit shutout against Pittsburgh on April 11, 2009 (a seven-inning game that went an extra inning). Zack Pitts and Scott Jenkins are the only other Cardinals to accomplish the feat in the last six seasons (all four won their starts).

The righty's season ERA now sits at 0.87 (just two earned runs in 20.2 innings), while his ERA over his past four regular-season starts is now 0.68 (Amlung hurled 6.0 shutout innings at Notre Dame in his final regular-season start last year). Amlung has registered 19 strikeouts and just three walks over his last four regular-season outings.

Amlung has allowed neither a run nor a walk in the first three innings of his past four starts.

Freshman shortstop Alex Chittenden snapped his career-opening 0-for-24 slump with a second-inning single on Saturday.

After suffering through an 0-for-8 slide beginning in the Minnesota game, freshman Ty Young has gone 4-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored over the past two games. He registered his first career multi-hit game on Saturday, going 3-for-4.

Junior Ryan Wright tied a career best with a pair of walks in the game.

Freshman Ryan Seiz scored the first two runs of his career in the contest.

Left fielder Drew Haynes picked up his second two-hit game in the past three contests, finishing 2-for-4.
