LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 20th-ranked Louisville baseball team completed its final preseason weekend with the Red-Gray scrimmage on a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Junior second baseman Ryan Wright had a home run and three RBI, while sophomore third baseman Cade Stallings added a home run with two hits and scored twice to lead the Red squad to an 8-2 win. Sophomores Kyle Grieshaber and Zak Wasserman added two hits and one RBI each, while freshman Alex Chittenden had two hits and scored once in the win.
On the mound for the Red team, sophomore righty Mike Nastold pitched 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings in the starting role, while senior lefty Joe Stilphen provided 3.0 innings of shutout relief. Leading the way for the Gray offense was senior outfielder Drew Haynes, who finished with three hits and scored twice, while freshman Ryan Seiz added a hit and two RBI.
The Cardinals will host their annual Media Day activities on Monday at Jim Patterson Stadium and a full recap will be available here at www.UofLsports.com.
Louisville will open the 2011 season against Michigan on Friday at 4 p.m., ET in St. Petersburg, Fla., during day one of the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge. The Cardinals' home opener at Jim Patterson Stadium is set for Friday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m., ET in game one of a three-game series against Toledo.
