LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's soccer head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes has announced the promotion of Kyle Singer to associate head coach.
"Kyle has been a wonderful addition to our coaching staff and after three years of tireless work, it is only fitting that he is elevated to associate head coach," said Ferguson-Dayes. "He thinks and acts like a head coach and he is completely invested in the success of our women's soccer program. I am grateful to have him on our staff, and when it is time for him to become a head coach, I am confident in knowing that he is well prepared to run his own program."
Singer, a native of Plymouth, Minn., is entering his fourth season overall with the Louisville women's soccer program after serving the previous three years as an assistant coach for the Cardinals. Prior to his arrival in Louisville, Singer spent the previous season as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota after spending time at Boston College and Northeastern.
"I am extremely grateful to both Karen Ferguson-Dayes and Tom Jurich (U of L Vice President for Athletics) for providing me with this opportunity," said Singer. "The support for both myself and my family from the University of Louisville athletic family over the last three years has been amazing. I believe that the women's soccer program is capable of achieving great things in the coming years, and I look forward to continuing in helping provide our players with opportunities to be successful on the field, in the classroom and in life beyond their college years."
Before moving into the coaching ranks, Singer was a very successful professional and collegiate goalkeeper. He was drafted by the New England Revolution 29th overall in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft and spent three seasons playing professionally with the Revolution.
Singer began his collegiate career as a player at Virginia, where he took the field for 30 matches for the Cavaliers in three seasons. After transferring to Boston College, he stepped into the starting lineup and helped the Eagles advance to the Elite Eight of the 2002 NCAA Tournament - the best finish in school history, winning a school record 17 games and earning honorable mention All-America, First Team All-BIG EAST, First Team All-Region and BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. Singer earned a bachelor's degree in foreign affairs from Virginia and completed his master's degree in higher education administration while at Boston College.
Prior to his collegiate career, Singer was a member of the US National Team, competing with the U-17 squad in the World Cup in Egypt and guiding the US to a shutout win over Austria.
Louisville will open its 2010 home schedule with an exhibition game against Tennessee on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m., ET at Cardinal Park. Admission will be free for the game, which will be preceded by a free soccer clinic with Louisville players from 5 to 6 p.m. The Cardinals' regular season opener is set for Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. ET against Eastern Kentucky at Cardinal Park.
