
Swimming Places 14 in A-Finals at BIG EAST Championships

Fourteen U of L swimmers are back in the A-Finals and six in the B-Finals tonight at the BIG EAST Swimming Championship at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. In all, three events will be contested, with Cardinals being represented in all of them.
In the 500-free, Amanda Henleben will final tonight when she qualified for the A-final with a time of 4:53.36. The men will have three in the A-Final and two in the B-final. Riley Martin qualified with the fastest time of 4:26.13, a NCAA B-cut with teammate Michael Pryor handing in the third fastest time at 4:27.06. Look for Shane Lichtenberg in the A-final as well, with a 4:29.10 time, good for the fifth seed. In the B-final, Rafal Kuchta (4:30.78) and Pedro Oliveira (4:30.83) will swim for the Cards.
In the 200-IM, Leslie VanWinkle set a school record, a BIG EAST record and a pool record with a time of 1:57.83, almost three seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Also qualifying for the A-final was Fanny Lilliestrom, who posted a 2:01.95. In the B-final, Anna Dishuck was the top qualifier with a 2:03.06, just .04 seconds out of being in the A. Teammate Therese Bergstrom was right behind her with a time of 2:03.27. For the men, Carlos Almeida was the third fastest qualifier with a time of 1:48.55 (an NCAA B-cut). Alex Burtch was fifth, going 1:49.60 and Michael Haefner snuck in the A-final in eighth place with a time of 1:50.47. Senior Luke Wakefield will swim in the B-final (1:51.06).
In the 50-free, Louisville placed four women in the A-final, led by Whitney Campbell,who was third (22.89 - and NCAA B-cut), Liz Halet who was fourth 23.03; Nicole Landisch who was sixth (23.12); and Lacey Bobo who was eighth (23.45). Alana Berrocal made the B-final with a time of 23.63. For the men in the 50-free, Kris Findorff was seventh with a time of 20.65
