LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team, coming off of consecutive NCAA bids, will face seven teams that competed in the 2007 NCAA Championship over the course of its 19-game slate that includes a pair of exhibition matches to open the 2008 season.
Head Coach Karen Ferguson is excited about what should be a challenging schedule.
"Our 2008 schedule will be extremely competitive for what will be a young Cardinal team and we are excited about the challenge."
"Returning only three seniors and four juniors, our youth will inevitably be a critical part to the teams success. Our upperclassmen have been with the program for it's most successful years and we will rely on their leadership and experience to compete for a BIG EAST Championship and return to the NCAA tournament. "
Louisville will open the exhibition season with a match at Northwestern August 13 before a final tune-up at home against Morehead State on the 17th.
The regular season opens at Butler on August 22, leading up to a trio of matches at Cardinal park that feature '07 NCAA teams.
Texas, who advanced to the 2007 Sweet 16, will face the Cards for the first time on August 31 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Purdue, whom the Cards defeated 1-0 in West Lafayette last season, will make the return trip to The Ville on September 7, and the Cardinals will meet Oklahoma State in the first meeting between the two teams on September 12.
The BIG EAST season opens at home against rival Cincinnati on September 19 at 7:00 p.m. UofL has won five straight against the Bearcats.
The Cards head to Columbus, Ohio for the final non-conference match of the season against Ohio State. The Cards blanked the Buckeyes 2-0 in Louisville last season.
Louisville has home matches against DePaul, UConn, Providence, Georgetown and Villanova in league play. The Cards will travel to Notre Dame, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Marquette and USF.
The BIG EAST Championship opens on October 30 at campus sites, with the semifinals and finals taking place in South Bend, Indiana on November 7 and 9.
NCAA First Round Action is scheduled to begin on November 14.
