DUBLIN, Ireland - University of Louisville women's soccer player Shannon Smyth has been invited to train with Ireland's National Women's Team in an attempt to make the full National Team roster for an upcoming EUFA qualifying match in February.
Smyth, a junior forward, spent a portion of the 2007 preseason at the World University Games with the Irish National Team in Bangkok, Thailand, scoring a goal and an assist, leading the team to a fourth place finish in a tournament that featured an upset of Germany.
A second team All-BIG EAST selection, she lead the Cardinals in goals (6), assists (3) and points (15) during the 2007 season, helping the Cardinals to a second consecutive NCAA birth. Her five game winning goals lead the BIG EAST, scoring twice in double overtime and once in overtime.
Smyth will train during the first two weeks of January including a game against Northern Ireland on January 3. From these training sessions, the National Team roster will be chosen for the EUFA qualifying match against Italy on February 16.
