FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - For the second time in her career, University of Louisville women's soccer player Monique Gjini has been named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team.
The senior from Edmonton was named Offensive MVP of the Boilermaker Challenge Cup, as the Cardinals picked up season-opening wins over Loyola(IL) and No. 15 Purdue.
Gjini,a midfielder, scored in the 82nd minute on a set-piece blast to the top right corner that propelled the Cards to the 1-0 victory over host Purdue on Sunday.
Second in Cardinal history with 17 career assists, Gjini was also tabbed by Soccer Buzz on October 2, 2006 after she scored two goals and added a pair of assists in helping the Cards to wins over DePaul and Syracuse.
The Cardinals, ranked 25th in the Soccer America National Poll, are 3-0 for the second time in school history and are set to open the home portion of the schedule Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Butler. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or by calling 852.5151.
