
Castillo Named BIG EAST Hitter of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Louisville junior Jorge Castillo has been named BIG EAST Hitter of the Week after going 6 for 12 (.500) at the plate with two doubles, one home run and 10 RBI. The Cardinals went 3-0 on the week, sweeping a three-game weekend series from West Virginia who was previously undefeated in BIG EAST play.
The first baseman/designated hitter from Miami, Florida hit the first grand slam in Jim Patterson Stadium history in the 16-5 win on Saturday, driving in a career-best seven runs and followed with three more RBI in the 9-8 win Sunday. He singled with two out in the seventh and the pinch runner that replaced him scored the tying run.
Castillo is batting .314 on the season with six doubles and 24 RBI, second on the team. He is the second Cardinal to earn the honor this season after Logan Johnson won it March 19.
The Cards are now 19-8 on the season and have won 10 of 11, winning their last five.
Louisville hosts Marshall Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET before opening a three-game set with Pitt starting Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.. Admission to all regular season games at Jim Patterson Stadium is free.
