LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team has earned a national ranking for the first time in school history, stepping in at #27 in the weekly Soccer Buzz rankings. The Cardinals are ranked third in the Great Lakes region behind top-ranked Notre Dame, whom the Cards face on Sunday, and #22 Purdue.
In addition, after scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist in a 4-1 BIG EAST opening win over Cincinnati on national TV last Wednesday, senior forward Jamie Craft has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Louisville is off to the best start in school history at 6-0-1 and the second longest unbeaten streak. The 1996 squad was 7-0-1 from October 4 -20.
Craft, the only three-time All-Conference honoree in school history, set up the opening goal of the win over the rival Bearcats and sealed the win with the final two goals. She has four goals and a career-high five assists in seven games this season. She is second all-time in goals (37) and points (88) and tied for third in assists (14) in Cardinal history.
The last Cardinal to be honored by the league was Monique Gjini in the final week of the regular season last year.
Louisville will next host DePaul on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park before hitting the road Sunday against the #1 Fighting Irish.
