MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After trailing 2-0 just 15 minutes into the match, the University of Louisville women's soccer team stormed back to score four unanswered goals in a 4-2 win over 18th-ranked West Virginia in the season-opening exhibition match Wednesday night.
The Cardinals received votes in the preseason NSCAA/adidas National Rankings, placing them 29th in the nation.
After falling behind 2-0 in the early going, the Cards picked up three goals in a 14 minute span. U of L added an insurance tally in the second half.
Senior Jamie Craft, freshmen Lindsay Boling and Lindsey Fox and junior Monique Gjini scored goals for the Cardinals in the win.
The Mountaineers did not wear game uniforms with numbers, nor was there an official box score kept.
The Cards will host Nebraska in the Third Annual Jenna Cooper Memorial Match at Cardinal Park on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in a second exhibition. Tickets for that match are $3 with all proceeds benefitting the Jenna Cooper Memorial Fund.
The regular season opener is set for Friday, August 25 in Cardinal Park against Ohio at 5:00 p.m.
