Over the course of the summer weeks, members of the University of Louisville women's soccer team will be making entries into a summer journal, keeping the fans up-to-date on what they are up to as they prepare for the 2006 season. Our next installment features Monique Gjini, a junior midfielder from Edmonton, Alberta who was named to the 2005 All-BIG EAST Third Team and All-Midwest Region Third Team:
Hello everyone! So far my summer has been absolutely FABULOUS!!! Our hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers, just fell short, losing game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals and that was HUGE! It was really disappointing, but our city went going crazy and I love it.... I just wish we could have won it. I hope everyone is enjoying the World Cup. The games have been amazing and they're just going to get better!
My days consist of waking up at 6:30 in the morning to watch the World Cup soccer matches. Other than watching and playing soccer `IRON' has become my new best friend. I'm going to be strong this preseason, so watch out Jamie! I'm also playing for the Victoria soccer team in Edmonton.
So far it's been great to be home fine dining at my restaurant everyday, but I know my heart really belongs at Qdoba. I just want to congratulate all the girls on our awesome spring season, we worked hard and I'm so excited our team recruited such high level players for this upcoming season. I'm already counting down the days till we have our first game against West Virginia! WOOOHOOO!
"I've worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I will not let myself down."
"The vision of a champion is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion, when nobody else is looking."
