LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team has released its 2006 schedule that includes five teams that competed in the 2005 NCAA tournament.
Head Coach Karen Ferguson, the winningest coach in U of L women's soccer history, who will be at the helm of the Cardinals for her seventh season is pleased with the level of competition the 2006 slate will offer.
"We feel that our schedule this fall is one of our most competitive ever."
"Obviously, every BIG EAST game will be huge, and in addition to that, we've picked up some very solid out of conference teams."
Louisville will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia for an exhibition match against the Mountaineers on August 16 to open the season, before returning home for the third annual Jenna Cooper Memorial Match on August 19. Both WVU and the Huskers advanced to the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. It will mark the first meeting between the Cardinals and the Mountaineers.
"We open with exhibitions against two perennial Top 25 teams, and hope those games will help prepare us for the start of our regular season," Ferguson added.
The regular season opener for the Cards will be against Ohio on August 25 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
The Cards will renew acquaintances with instate rival Kentucky in Lexington on September 3 at 2:30 p.m., the first meeting between the two since the 1996 season.
The conference opener for the Cards will be at home against Cincinnati on September 15. Louisville will face BIG EAST opponent St. John's (9/29) and Syracuse (10/1) for the first time in school history.
After a four game homestand the Cards will finished with the final four on the road at USF (10/13), Marquette (10/15), Seton Hall (10/20) and Rutgers (10/22).

"We look forward to the challenges and anticipate being part of the Big East Championship in Storrs, CT," said Ferguson.
